Tar1k formerly known as TMA has just released a brand-new single “Alima”. The song is quickly transforming into a fan favorite.

The Inspiration Behind “Alima”

According to Tar1k, making “Alima” was one of the most spontaneous and creative projects he has ever worked on. In the initial phase he had no clear message in mind but knew that he wanted something that would evoke the emotional state of mind that is known too well amongst youths.

“I’d been toying with the idea in my head – to make a song about a defined female subject, like we used to back in the day. Something that was relatable, and yet bold,” said Tar1k

“I was going for something real, raw. Maybe even exaggerated. And Alima was born.”

Alima was created in an impromptu studio session with Tar1k and producer Joshhbeatz whilst working on another project. Inspiration kicked in when the producer played the instrumentals for the first time.

“We were vibing in the studio, and I started humming, and then singing the first two lines as they’d come to my head “Try normor Alima, anyhow now you go see am” And Josh kinda froze like… wetin dandae?”

Alima is kinda like a heartbreak song you will dance to, one in which the singer tells a tale of a woman betraying her lover by cheating on him. The guy later found out and the rest is history.

What’s Next for Tar1k?

With the release of “Alima,” fans are eagerly anticipating what Tar1k has in store next. Earlier this year he hinted at a possible EP, promising that more incredible music is on the horizon.

On the other hand fans have received Alima with open arms, and it was evident at the song’s launch at the Creative Hub Africa last Friday when they got the chance to witness Tar1k perform the song for the first time.

“The response has been overwhelming. Such an outpour of love everywhere, and I am soaking it all up. The energy from Alima’s premiere performance at Creative Hub Africa’s open mic night on release day was electric.”

“People seem to have questions and opinions, conspiracy theories, advice… I’m here for all of it.”

However, there is something different about “Alima”, it’s the first song done by Tar1k that’s fully Krio, and secondly it’s not the mellow rapping type of RnB Hip Hop we’ve grown accustomed to. This is an upbeat song you can dance to and sing out loudly when hanging out with friends, at a party or at the club .

“While my songs typically have been more mellow, Alima rests largely on percussion.”

“Another would be that it’s done entirely in Krio. While there’s usually dashes of Krio in my writing, I hadn’t before written anything entirely in Krio. It is authentically Sierra Leonean”
