Kendrick Lamar Surprises Fans With New Album, ‘GNX’
American rapper, Kendrick Lamar, has surprised fans with the unexpected release of a new album titled GNX. The release was made on November 22nd, 2024 and has been welcomed by the majority of his fans.
The album ‘GNX’ features 12 tracks, including ‘Heart 6.’ The track is a bold statement from Lamar, asserting that Drake’s choice to release a track against him named ‘Heart 6’ will not deter him from pursuing the series.
The GNX Album
The album comes just days after he was named rapper of the year by Apple Music.
His popular track, ‘Not Like Us’, was recognized as one of the year’s top songs. This accolade places his work alongside notable artists such as Key Glock, Gunna, Future, and Metro Boomin.
‘GNX’ marks Lamar’s first album release since 2022’s when he last released an album titled Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, arriving just before his headlining act at the Super Bowl halftime show in February. Lamar’s latest work has been influenced by an ongoing rivalry with Canadian artist Drake.
Lamar’s unexpected album omits any tracks aimed at Canadian rapper Drake, with whom he shares a legendary rap rivalry. The choice to exclude the popular track ‘Not Like Us’ is likely to catch the attention of numerous hip hop enthusiasts.
Fans of rap music have overtime felt compelled to choose sides in what is often regarded as one of the most significant feuds in American hip hop history.
Kendrick Lamar’s Nominations
Kendrick Lamar has received several nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Rap Song of the Year. Additionally, he has been selected to headline the 2025 Super Bowl, set to take place in New Orleans.
His most recent album guarantees that he wraps up the year on a strong note. Lamar is a strong contender in the rap categories, a situation that may not sit well with Drake.
Earlier this year, Drake criticized Lamar’s status as a favored artist of the Recording Academy in his diss track “Family Matters” stating, “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now.”
Lamar boasts 17 Grammy wins from 57 nominations, while Drake has secured five wins from 55 nominations.
