Sierra Leone’s brightest music star, Drizilik, is back with a new eight-track afro-fusion EP, “Wait and See.” Upbeat and reflective, the EP showcases Drizilik at his finest. With masterful wordplay and undeniable talent, Drizilik is destined to take his place among Africa’s greats. Get ready because Drizilik is about to take over.

The EP delivers the collaboration fans crave: Drizilik and The Therapist. “Lemonade,” an amapiano club banger, showcases Sierra Leone’s two biggest stars spitting fire and melody in Krio and Pidgin—a perfect blend of linguistic styles.

Other stand-out tracks on the Wait and See EP include the Afro-rap songs “Above All” and “Smiley Face,” which explore Drizilik’s journey and sacrifices. He went against the grain, leaving school to chase his music dreams at a time when no one believed in him. Now, the pressures of the spotlight weigh on him.

The EP’s opener, “Above All,” showcases Drizilik’s introspective side as he sings and raps in both Krio and English. The opening hook reflects on his journey: “Been on the road for many years / we don crawl / brick by brick, we’re getting there / we don tall / lift your head and see the evidence / e no small.”

Wait and See album is the best of both world: Afrobeats and HipHip

“Blame” reunites Drizilik with longtime collaborator DJ Rampage, who infuses bubu horns with drill beats. Drizilik uses the track to warn naysayers: “If you see me where you don’t expect me, / Rising fast to the top, / I cannot be blamed.”

“Nothing is Free,” a classic uptempo Afrobeat tune, pays homage to the hustle and bustle of Freetown. The track’s Krio metaphor, “En nobody nor wan be di wan for use e hand pul banga na fire,” perfectly captures the daily struggle of city life—it’s a dog-eat-dog world.

Fans will also appreciate “Pull Up,” a grown and sexy dancehall collaboration with reggae artist J-Lucia, as well as “M I A,” featuring Delirious and Laoung, a Sierra Leonean-Italian singer (nephew to blues man Bai Kamara Jr.). On “M.I.A,” Drizilik is emotive as he sings, “boku boku loving if ah pack am pan you e go at for measure,” emphasizing that all he needs is her.

In contrast, “Back at Me” featuring Da Cintra is a breakup song, as evidenced by the lyrics: “You’re trying to get back with me so you can get back at me.” Released as a single in October, it quickly became a fan favorite.

With a runtime of 24 minutes, the “Wait and See” EP reintroduces Drizilik as both a singer and a rapper with impeccable flow and seamless delivery. He is on a musical journey, inviting listeners to join him as they reminisce, sing along, and dance to the beat.

Wait and See is Drizilik’s first major music release since Ashobi in August 2022.
